DETECTIVES today stepped up their hunt for a gunman who
shot a dad on the doorstep of his £250,000 house.
Edward Lyons today remained in serious condition in
hospital after being blasted through a glass door panel.
The 28-year-old suffered serious injuries after the attack
in Cumbernauld on Tuesday night.
The victim and his partner have a young baby, but it's not
known if they were inside at the time.
Mr Lyons was rushed by ambulance to Monklands General
Hospital following the attack, as reported in later editions
of last night's Evening Times.
Today he remains in a "serious but stable" condition.
Forensic experts yesterday combed the area for clues and
carried out investigations at the house.
Police are treating the incident as attempted murder.
It is the second shooting in Cumbernauld in two weeks after
Ronald Dougan, 25, was shot dead in the town.
Mr Lyons' father Eddie, the boss of a community centre
funded by public cash, is at the centre of an official probe
over criminal links.
And Edward was charged along with his father, brothers
Johnny and Stephen, and two others after a man was almost
beaten to death six years ago.
Charges against Eddie, 47, and Johnny were dropped while
Edward and Stephen walked free on not proven verdicts.
Detective Inspector Gordon Wotherspoon, who is leading the
investigation, said today: "I would appeal to anyone who may
have been in the area of Ratho Drive who has any information
that they think might assist the investigation to come
forward."
