Gang website could help police solve attempted murder of boy

By Russell Findlay

A TEENAGE gang's website is being examined by police investigating an attempted murder.

Members of the Young Milton Thugz pose proudly with knives and hammers in pictures on the site.

But police are now using their online boasting - and those of other gangs across the country - to crack down on crime.

Detectives are particularly interested in the YMT, based on the north side of Glasgow, because of a clash with rivals from nearby Cadder in which a 15-year-old was left fighting for his life.

They are treating the attack on the bank of the Forth and Clyde canal as attempted murder.

Superintendent Paul Main said of the gang websites: "We are aware of this type of activity.

"We would stress that criminals actually assist police by their use of websites and other technology."

One member pictured on the YMT website is Chris Lyons, 16 - was involved in the murder bid.

His father Eddie runs the Glasgow Council-funded Chirnsyde Community Initiative Chris, nicknamed Chips, appeared in court last year accused of raping a 14-year-old before the case was dropped.

The website has a list of groups within YMT, including the "Club Boyz" which locals say refers to a club run by Eddie with public cash. Chris's brother Stephen, 25, has walked free four times in four years on attempted murder charges.

Glasgow Council and the Executive continue to back Eddie, who has also been cleared of attempted murder, with public cash.
