A CHILDREN's centre run by a gangster will continue to be funded by tyaxpayers despite a report listing 32 concerns. Councillors voted to bankroll Eddie Lyons Sr’s Chirnsyde Community Initiative in Milton, Glasgow. A report by accountants Scott-Moncreiff revealed publically funded vehicles are registered to Lyons but no record is kept of their use. And no checks are made on what computers at the centre are used for. Campaigners slammed the decision last night. Local councillor Billy McAllister said “The could get rid of Lyons on the strength of this report. It demonstrates the place is run like a private club with no basic procedures. “I suspect Lyons’ political and police links are the reason he is still in this position.” Eddie Sr, 48, heads a crime clan linked to major drug dealing, shootings, slashings and fire attacks. He was once charged after a gang of thugs almost beat a man to death at Chirnsyde. This year £63,000 of drugs cash found in a house owned by him was seized by the Crown. Some Strathclyde Police bosses are said to be amazed at the council’s decision SUNDAY EMAIL! r.findlay@sundaymail.co.uk | |||
