A PROBE into a community centre run by a gangland family will be done by an accountant who will NOT look into any crime links. The inquiry into Chirnsyde Community Initiative will only examine its finances. The centre, at Milton, Glasgow, is run by Eddie Lyons Sr, 48, whose family are linked to drug dealing, shootings and stabbings. An accountant from the firm Scott-Moncrieff began auditing the books two weeks ago. But he will not look at the involvement of the hated Lyons clan. Campaigners are calling it a "whitewash". One said: "The real issues are about violence, criminality, kids' safety and the suitability of Edward Lyons. "Appointing an accountant misses the point." Lyons' den has received hundreds of thousands of pounds in taxpayers' cash. First Minister's wife and Glasgow council leisure boss Bridget McConnell has frozen its funding and ordered a probe. Eddie Lyons Sr was once charged with attempted murder after a man was almost beaten to death at Chirnsyde but charges were dropped. His son Eddie was discharged from hospital last week after he was shot. A council spokesman said: "The investigation will cover its governance, management, how facilities are operated, how vehicles and equipment are used and its financial affairs. The council is anxious to address concerns raised about Chirnsyde." Scott-Moncreiff declined to comment. | |||
